A union between Microsoft and oil field service giant, Halliburton is about to take place, with a plan to take the oil and gas industry digital.
The main areas they will focus on changing are:
Halliburton will use Microsoft products and hardware such as HoloLens and Surface, IoT and Azure.
Halliburton’s Decision Space 365, which enables real-time data streaming from IoT devices in the field, and their iEnergy, which links oilfields to the office, will be converted onto Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform.
Jason Zander, Corporate VP of Microsoft Azure commented, “Halliburton is focused on delivering intelligent cloud solutions to drive the next generation of efficient oil and gas exploration and production…We are excited to bring the power of Azure’s hyperscale, hybrid and global cloud platform technologies to this alliance to enhance the value chain for our mutual customers.”
By adding major digital processes into the oil fields, both companies are hoping to optimize well drilling and help lower the production costs per barrel.
